The oldest complex of colonial buildings in the Blue Mountains resides in Woodford. ‘Woodford Academy’ was originally built as an Inn in 1833, and later operated as a guest house, a boarding house and from 1907-1936, under the ownership of John McManamey, as an Exclusive School. Bequested to the National Trust in 1979 by John McManamey’s sole surviving daughter Gertrude, the Woodford Academy is today a museum, open to the general public one Saturday every month, offering a unique glimpse of colonial life in the Blue Mountains.
Buss’s Platform was established in 1868, which then become Woodford Railway Station in 1902. Woodford also boasts a beautiful picnic area at Bull’s Camp Reserve. In 1829, the area was originally used as a stock reserve. With the early building of the Great Western Highway, the area then became a camp for the convict labourers.

The Great Western Highway at Woodford has seen some major changes in recent years. The ‘Woodford Bends’ were once a major traffic bottleneck, yet now is a fantastic free-flowing four lane highway.
Take a short walk into the Reserve to visit the gorgeous Gypsy Pool, or take a drive down Bedford Road to visit Linda Rock, or the secluded Murphy’s Glen Picnic Ground. Of interest is Mabel Falls, Edith Falls, Hazel Falls and 'The Woodford Waterhole’ - just west of the picnic area you can see what is believed to be an old ‘Convict Cell’, as well as ‘The Grooved Rock’. Along the highway, you will also find a general store as well as other small local businesses.
Woodord is also the starting point of the famous Woodford to Glenbrook Track which is ideal for mountain bike riding or for the walking enthusiast. While the track is mostly downhill, there are some sections of the track which can be fairly tough going.
